A Toast (of Veuve) To Our New Partnership

Over 250 years ago, Madame Clicquot created one of the most iconic Champagne brands, stamping the comet on her bottles’ corks in 1814 as a tribute to 1811’s great celestial comet followed by an exceptional harvest. This audacious and intelligent woman – who took over the reins of Maison Clicquot after her husband’s death in 1805 – perfected new techniques of productions including an improved process of clarifying Champagne, and created the very first blend of rosé Champagne.

Her name became synonymous with a brand of excellence and renowned around the world, becoming the ‘Grande Dame of Champagne.’

Fast-forward 211 years, and Veuve Clicquot has joined Steves roster of exceptional fine wines and Champagnes in a special partnership which will see the familiar ‘Clicquot’ yellow bottles take a starring role in family celebrations, national events and weekend get-togethers held at the popular Nedlands venue.

The legacy of Madame Clicquot continues to this day in the marque’s vineyards in Reims. Some 95% of the vines used are classes as grand or premier crus and the exceptional terroir of the Veuve Clicquot vineyards is the envy of the world. Geologically, the chalky soil in the Champagne region of France is extraordinary and gives Veuve Clicquot its defining mineral notes. Only the juice from the cuvée (the first and most noble pressing) is used and thanks to the cool temperatures and limited sun exposure, there’s a vivid freshness to the grapes.

The House is proud of its motto: ‘Only one quality, the finest’, and it’s a mission statement which Steves aligns with too. When you order a dozen freshly shucked oysters, a glass or two of Veuve is the ideal companion to start a memorable lunch or evening at Steves. It’s also the ideal match for a dish of charred Exmouth tiger prawns, pan-roasted goldband snapper or, for something lighter, pork and scallop san choy bow.

“We’re so proud to launch our partnership with Veuve Clicquot,” said Steves Bar General Manager Glen Parsons “The addition of this world-class Champagne brands, with such an exceptional heritage built up over the centuries is such a great fit for our venue which has been such a long-standing favourite with the people of Perth.”
