McHenry Hohnen Vintners Lunch WrapUp


Sundays’ festival of McHenry Hohnen Vintners kicked off in the Winestore with some delectable canapes, the new release of the 2017 Rocky Road Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and the first vintage of the brand new Rocky Road Rose made from 100% tempranillo.

Host and  McHenry Hohnen owner Murray McHenry alongside Winemaker Japo Dalli Cani and Brand Ambassador Michael Hartley, guided guests through the first selection of wines which included all the first vintages of 3 brand new wines to the range.

This selection was served with Fremantle Tuna, prepared 3 ways to pick up on the different elements of the 3 wines. Seared, smoked and cured. With 3 different preparations of pear. Tied together with toasted honey and charcoal dusted macadamia.

The second selection of wines featured the 3 single vineyard chardonnays, paired with Big Red Margaret River Pork. Slow cooked pork collar, served with duck liver parfait, a buttery braised pork and parsnip croquette, quince puree, toasted pumpkin seed oil, roasted fennel and puffed pork crackling. Definitely the standout dish of the lunch.

The final selection introduced 3 red varieties including the current release of Rolling Stone. Paired with 2 cheeses chosen to complement the flagship wine, Cabot Clothbound Cheddar and Bleu des Basques. As has become a tradition with McHenry Hohnen events at Steves, the reds also came with a piece of Rocky Road, made with dark chocolate, fresh marshmallow, toasted walnuts and almonds, freeze dried cherries and raspberries, and wine soaked sour cherries.

The event ended with guests being invited down into the cellar to have a taste of the 2014 Hazel’s Vineyard Zinfandel
